What is green hydrogen and how is it produced?.

The transition towards more sustainable energy sources is a global priority in the fight against climate change, as well as the reduction of dependence on fossil fuels. In this context, there is a need to develop hydrogen plants as an alternative energy vector.

Green hydrogen is produced through a process of electrolysis, in which electricity, from renewable sources such as solar or wind power, is used to split water molecules (H₂O) into oxygen and hydrogen. This production method is considered ‘green’ because it uses clean, renewable energy instead of fossil fuels, thus reducing carbon emissions.

Once the green hydrogen has been obtained, it is stored according to the specific needs of its subsequent application and transported through a suitable infrastructure, which may include pipelines, tanker trucks or bulk transport systems.

Hydrogen is an integral part of efforts to decarbonize sectors that are difficult to electrify directly, such as heavy industry and long-distance transport, thus contributing to the transition to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy system.

Our projects

Energy storage.

Hybrid hydrogen tanks allow large amounts of energy to be stored for extended periods, facilitating its subsequent use for electricity generation or as a fuel.

Transport and mobility.

Although not yet widely used, green hydrogen can be used as a fuel in light vehicles or heavy-duty vehicles. The main advantage over electric vehicles, lies in faster refueling times and a longer range.

Chemical component.

In the industrial sector, hydrogen is a valuable raw material in energy-intensive industries, such as the chemical industry for ammonia and fertilizer production, the petrochemical industry for oil refining, or the metallurgy industry for steel production.

Heating.

In both domestic and industrial use, hydrogen is emerging as an effective alternative to fossil fuels.

Green Solar International and green hydrogen
Green Solar International and green hydrogen.

At present, Green Solar International is actively developing several Green Hydrogen projects in Spain.

We aim to combine large-scale ground-mounted renewable energy projects with electrolysis to produce green hydrogen and/or green ammonia, which we believe is a pioneering venture. Together with our business partners, we are committed to this innovative, multi-year development that focuses on the electrolysis process and finding off-takers for the green hydrogen or green ammonia.

In this way, we strive to contribute to reducing fossil fuel usage in industrial applications, offering alternatives for storing and transporting electricity, or fueling hydrogen-powered vehicles.
