In November, Green Solar International (GSI) and SUEZ formed a strategic alliance to advance green hydrogen production in Spain. By combining SUEZ's cutting-edge expertise in renewable gas management with GSI's leadership in large-scale renewable energy, this partnership aims to spearhead the decarbonization of key sectors such as industry and heavy transport.
Green Solar International and SUEZ join forces to lead Green Hydrogen production in Spain

A Partnership to Drive the Energy Transition
Focusing initially on the development of 250 MW of electrolysis capacity powered by on-site renewable energy, this collaboration represents a significant investment in Spain's green energy future. Harnessing SUEZ's commercial strength and GSI's extensive expertise in renewable energy project development, the partnership is set to deliver transformative initiatives that accelerate the energy transition and strengthen sustainability.
"This collaboration is about more than energy—it's about creating meaningful, long-term benefits for communities and industries across Spain," said Pepe León, Director of GSI Spain.
Spain: A Strategic Hub for Green Hydrogen
Spain's abundant solar and wind resources position the country at the forefront of Europe's green hydrogen race, with ambitions to become a leading hydrogen export hub. According to the National Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC), green hydrogen is a cornerstone for achieving a 32% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, with a roadmap to install at least 12 GW of electrolyzer capacity.
"The adoption of green hydrogen will not only contribute to reducing CO2 emissions but also has the potential to create jobs and foster local economic development," stated Antonio Segura, Business Development Manager at SUEZ Group Spain.
Beyond environmental benefits, this initiative supports economic revitalization. Government projections estimate over 300,000 jobs in the green hydrogen sector by 2050. The joint efforts of SUEZ and GSI highlight their commitment to driving impactful environmental and economic change, ensuring a sustainable future for Spain and beyond.
